gps…….?

i have a extra gps tracking devise. it says legent and garmin on it. it locates way points and stuff like that. i was wondering if you could put it on someones car and track were they're going without you there and without them knowing. can anyone give me specific instructions on how to do this??

Nope. The Garmin eTrex Legend is a handheld GPS device that will pinpoint your location when you're out trekking or just walking about. It doesn't track your whereabouts.
For that you need a GPS tracking device like the Trackstick or i-gotu GPS data logger.

Parents only…Is GPS tracking a good idea for teens?

Wouls you install a GPS tracking devise in your teens car? They are easy and cheap to get now (about $60 for the cheapest ones). They can monitor speed and text you if the driver leaves certain pre-set barriers.

Soooo….would you install one in your teens car, or is this more of a trust issue?

If you would install one, would you tell them about it?
i think that it would allow the teen more freedom, because parents would let them do more stuff than normal because the parents can monitor them if needed.

In order for me to install one I would have to have several resons not to trust my child. She would have to have done some untrustworthy things in the past. If she has never given me a reason to not trust her, no I would not. Of course I wouldn't tell them if I put it in the car.

has anyone had experience with GPS tracking devises? easy to use? really work? thanks?

Yes, I am using Fleettraks.

They work well. They use GPS and analog cell phone to track locations. When the GPS is moving it dials up every 15 minutes to show it's position. It shows every time the ignition is turned off and on. It actually track mileage travelled. It even has an internal battery, so if an employee unplugs it, it still works.

Stay at Home Dad

RebelDad makes an impassioned argument for elevating the way we describe dads who stay at home to be with kids:

So yesterday I was given another reminder that one of these days I should really start a blogroll for MAWDAHs… moms who go to work and are married to at-home dads. Asha over at ParentHacks.com flagged this post by Mom 101 about her husband. It is a wonderful denunciation of the strange and irritating trend toward referring to male caregivers by female terms (”The Mommy,” “Mr. Mom,” etc.)

I was asked recently what the problem with Mr. Mom is, and Mom 101 nails a good chunk of it. Here’s my take on why it’s a problem:

* It is unfair to women to “mom”ify the job. Calling a guy “Mr. Mom,” implies mom *should* be the one behind the stroller. That ought to be pretty offensive nowadays.

* It emphasizes the novelty of at-home fatherhood. A dad at the playground shouldn’t be treated with any more surprise that a female surgeon in the operating room. Why should “Hey â?? that kid’s caretaker is a *man*!” be any less offensive than “Hey â?? that doctor/lawyer/exec is a *woman*!”?

* It glosses over the different skills that mothers and fathers bring to the table. Kyle Pruett at Yale has made a career of noting that men and women generally parent differently, and that kids are best served by both styles of play. Suggesting that a dad is “mothering” shortchanges dads by ignoring the unique advantages of what Pruett calls “Fatherneed.” (And it shortchanges moms by suggesting that dads can provide traits that are generally unique to moms.)

* It reminds everyone of Jack Butler, Michael Keaton’s character in Mr. Mom. I know that the movie comes to a sweet end, where Jack becomes a good dad, etc. etc. But it is remembered in the collective unconscious as a movie about a do-nothing father who can’t iron and who drinks beer in the morning. I could do without those images being attached to dads taking care of their kids.

Tracking Device May Give Parents Peace Of Mind

Some parents will tell you that handing over the keys to the car is the scariest thing they do. But what if you could know your teen’s every move?

Some parents are buying an auto-tracking device. KMBC’s Jim Flink reported that the device slips under the dash of the car and with a flip of a switch, it can track your child’s every move.

Bob Eatherly has four children, including son Carter. Eatherly said he trusts his son, but sometimes can’t get in touch with him.

GPS Mapping

GPS tracking systems offer several types of mapping for you to select from.  Some units have multiple choices while others have a specialized mapping system.

• Street maps

These are for use of navigation through a city or on a longer journey. In high density areas such as an urban area, you will want to look for WAAS reception as this will provide you with more accuracy. Even better is SiRF Star III Chip Set which allows you to get even better accuracy in dense areas.

• Nautical Maps

On the high seas or the neighborhood stream, having the ability to know where you are going and to find that small little cove where all of the fish are located is a great way for you to use nautical maps. GPS units with nautical maps provide you with a good amount of sight into areas that are not charted. Some will download up to the minute details for you to use.

• Topographic Maps

How about knowing the hills and bumps in the road before you get them?

• Aeronautical Maps

If you are flying your favorite little plane, these are ideal tools to keep with you.
