Do You Choose A GPS Unit Based On Brand Name?

If you take some time to look at the options that you have, you will soon become overwhelmed with all the choices in GPS tracking systems that are out there. Not only do they have various uses but just the number of brands can be overwhelming. Google claims that there are over 200 various brands of GPS units today. Do you have time to go through all of them? Most of us don’t, but that does not mean we can’t have the best products on the market.

The quality of your GPS tracking system should be the first and most important thing that you consider. It should fulfill your needs and easy to use. In addition, you will want the unit to provide you with the latest technology and it should be within budget. Is that too much to ask? Not with so many options out there on the market. Popular brands of GPS devices tend to cost more. You may have heard about Garmin or Navman. These are commonly thought of as some of the best. But, you still have other options including Magellan, Mapopolis, AdvanTrack and Cobra GPS.

How To Choose

Instead of looking for the name brand that you have heard of, look at the features that the GPS tracking system has to offer. Does it have the right type of reception for your needs? Is it heavy duty? If you drop it into the lake when you are fishing, will it make it home still working? On top of that, you need to look at the usability of the product as well. Each and every one of the units on the market has a different look to it but each should be easy to use and benefit from. If you have to pull out your user manual to determine how to navigate the menu, how likely are you to use it?

There are also countless reviews on GPS tracking systems on the web. Consumer reviews are very helpful in learning how well the unit is in real life. No matter why you are using it or how you plan to use it, ensure that you purchase a unit that fulfill your needs. Brand name should only be the next determinant in your purchasing decision.

Giving Cars A Sixth Sense To Prevent Accidents

I was reading the newspaper today and this article caught my attention:

“Giving cars a sixth sense to prevent accidents”

In the UK, a dashboard device that alerts the drivers to an impending accident has been unveiled. General Motors developed the system that allows cars to ‘communicate’ with each other at distances of up to 200 metres - even around corners. If 2 vehicles are on the collision course, the system warns the driver of danger with alarm, flashing lights and vibrations in the seat to take evasive action . Although it can also be programmed to start braking, the driver will remain in overall control of the vehicle.

The smart technology known as V2V - vehicle to vehicle - uses satellite navigation data to plot the precise location of a car. That information is conveyed by a wireless network to other cars within range, triggering a warning if those vehicles get too close for comfort.

This system could reduce the number of rear end shunts and overcome ‘blind spots’. It warns of stationary vehicle on the road even before the driver behind can see it - for example around a corner - and prevents rear-end collisions that occur daily due to poor visibility, twisty roads or short lapses in driver concentration.

The safety system gives cars a sixth sense. How? A car looks around and asks itself ‘where am I?’ and ‘where is everybody else?’.

General Motors estimated this car navigation system would cost only £125 a car. It would be six years before the technology could be fitted into cars coming off its production lines.

GPS Tracking Systems Do Many Jobs

If you are in the market for a new GPS tracking system, you may not realize all of the functions that are provided to you in these units. Of course, you probably have just one use you are after from hunting to helping you to move around in your neighborhood with your vehicle. You should keep note of the fact that GPS tracking systems have many more functions too. How many ways can you use these units? It really can be nearly impossible to tell!

Here are some of the very cool reasons to purchase GPS tracking systems.

• Where they started: GPS tracking systems were just used in the military units a few years ago. Then, they were used to track the bad guy, to help with troop movement and to do many other tasks.
• The GPS tracking systems were then put in vehicles. One of the first and most common uses for GPS tracking is that of allowing a driver to see where he is and to track where he needs to go. These are even commonly sold today as part of the package for the vehicle.
• Dogs: Did you know that people are using GPS tracking systems to help in tracking their animals? If your pet gets lost, these implanted chips can help to find where they are. In fact, through a small injection, these little guys are always safe from running away.
• Migration. Today, scientists of all walks are using GPS tracking systems to help in tracking the migration of animals. By placing the trackers into the animals through an injection, they can easily see where the animal is moving to for quite a long time.
• Cell Phones. Giving your loved one a phone that has GPS tracking it in can help you to find them if there is ever an emergency situation. These units are quite helpful for rescue missions.

Of course, there are those other uses for GPS tracking systems as well. This will include things like hunting, fishing and hiking. It will include helping to track where your teenager is taking your car or where the unfaithful spouse is going every night after work. They can help those that are suffering from Alzheimer’s to stay safe and even children that may be lost. With so many jobs for this one type of tool, you may be wondering how much it would cost you to add several of these to your life. GPS tracking systems allows us to be safe and to know what we may not otherwise know.
